UPDATE 09/12/2023: DraftKings has issued an apology for the parlay in a statement with the Boston Globe. “We sincerely apologize for the featured parlay that was shared briefly in commemoration of 9/11. We respect the significance of this day for our country and especially for the families of those who were directly affected.”

Several DraftKings users have criticized the operator for publishing a “Never Forget” parlay in memory of 9/11 on the home screen of their betting app Monday.

included three moneyline legs for New York teams

The September 11 terrorist attacks – that left roughly 3,000 people dead – took place 22 years ago as of Monday. The supposed “Never Forget” parlay included three moneyline legs for New York teams—the Jets, Yankees, and Mets—to beat their respective opponents, seemingly in memory of the tragedy.

Noise around the 9/11 parlay took off on social media Monday. One concerned party responded directly to DraftKings CEO Jason Robins in a post congratulating Novak Djokovic for his win in the US Open:

At the time of writing, the parlay is not visible on DraftKings’ website or mobile app, and neither the company nor its representatives have provided an official comment on the matter. It is still not completely clear if the parlay actually did go live on the site, though numerous users claim it did.

DraftKings regularly highlights featured parlays near the top of the home menu on its sportsbook. Additional current options include the “Shay Shay Parlay” (for NFL icon Shannon Sharpe) and “Two Cooks in the Kitchen” (for brothers Dalvin and James Cook), among others.
