Seen enough

Irish sportsbook operator Paddy Power is known for its off-the-wall marketing campaigns. Earlier this month, the company paid out on Liverpool to win the English Premier League before the 22/23 season even started, and it has now decided on the next managerial sacking.

a shocking 4-0 defeat to South London club Brentford

After his team suffered a shocking 4-0 defeat to South London club Brentford on Saturday, Paddy Power has paid out on Manchester United’s new boss Erik Ten Hag to lose his job next. The company took to Twitter to share the soccer betting update:

The loss over the weekend means Manchester are winless in their first two games after suffering a 2-1 defeat to Brighton the prior week. The team now sits bottom of the Premier League table for the first time since August 1992. It’s also the worst start to a new Man United manager’s campaign in more than a century.

How it played out

Manchester United didn’t just lose on Saturday, they suffered an absolute thrashing in perhaps one of the most amazing results in EPL history.

A goalkeeping blunder from Man U’s De Gea kickstarted the Brentford onslaught, but the Bees had added three more goals to their tally not long after the game had reached the 30-minute mark. Brentford spent the rest of the game toying with Manchester, while the Red Devils’ world-renowned stars failed to make any impact at all.

You’re getting sacked in the morning.”

Brentford fans held no punches in regards to their opposition. The Gtech Community Stadium was alive with chants of “you’re getting sacked in the morning” directed at Ten Hag. Meanwhile, plenty of Twitter users also took aim at Manchester after the humiliating start:

Other users also singled out the poor performance of certain players, such as Scottish midfielder Scott McTominay:

Sportsbooks slash odds

Paddy Power isn’t the only sportsbook operator to take note of United’s poor performances. Other sportsbooks have slashed their odds for Ten Hag’s exit. Sky Betting and Gaming, 888Sport, and Betvictor all have the former Ajax man as +400 to leave next, behind only Southampton’s manager Ralph Hasenhuttl.

If he does leave, Ten Hag will be the eighth manager to exit the club since EPL legend Alex Ferguson decided to retire in 2013. The club has not won the league since Ferguson left, finishing as high as second twice and as low as seventh once in that time. Last season, the club finished sixth – its joint second-lowest finish since the Fergie era.

As for odds to win the Premier League, FanDuel and Paddy Power have priced Man U at +10000. DraftKings is slightly less hopeful regarding the team’s chances at +13000. In fact, sportsbooks believe the team has a better chance of relegation than lifting the trophy, priced at +2500 with DraftKings and FanDuel.
