WSOP Announces 20th Anniversary Schedules for 2022/23 Europe, Circuit Events

The World Series of Poker (WSOP) has released schedules for 2022/23’s WSOP Europe and WSOP Circuit (WSOP-C) events in what is the 20th anniversary year of the poker brand’s circuit tournaments.

The WSOP announced the event calendar on Thursday, with ten locations selected in Europe, Oceania, Africa, South America, and the Caribbean. The WSOP took to Twitter to share news of the 2022/23 schedule, adding that additional dates will be announced in the future:

The Caesar’s Entertainment sub-brand heads first to Rozvadov in the Czech Republic. There, at King’s Resort, the 2022 WSOP Europe will play out from October 26 to November 16, with the WSOP-C starting September 21. The venue will remain the same for the Mini Main Event that runs October 31 to November 4 with a €1m ($1.02m) purse up for grabs.

King’s Resort will also host the headlining WSOP Europe Main Event from November 11, with a €5m ($5.1m) prize. Total prize money for the 2022/23 Europe and international events is €12m ($12.2m), with 15 bracelets to play for.

Poker players get their wings back

In a WSOP news release Thursday, King’s Resort owner and poker pro Leon Tsoukernik expressed excitement over hosting the “biggest and most prestigious tournament series with the biggest guarantees in Europe.” The casino’s Twitter declared “records were broken in ‘21, expect history to be made in ‘22!”:

Mixed in with Tsoukernik’s excitement was a strong sense of relief that world poker was finally getting its wings back “without any limitations and struggles of the past two years.”

“Travel restrictions for players coming from the US have been lifted [and] we’re all set to deliver first-class service and hospitality for all poker players,” the King’s owner affirmed.

All roads lead to Vegas

WSOP’s senior VP and executive director Ty Stewart was equally upbeat, saying poker “is bigger than ever.” Stewart also shared his brand’s excitement over bringing “the once-in-a-lifetime poker experiences of the WSOP-C and WSOP Europe back to transcontinental players.”

According to the WSOP news release, each champion from the live or online circuit events will get to compete at the invitation-only “Tournament of Champions” event at the 2023 WSOP in Sin City.

The WSOP exec also highlighted “a recent run” of non-North American players winning the Main Event, as evidenced by Norwegian Espen J?rstad’s winning WSOP 2022 in Las Vegas in July and picking up a cool $10m. This year is the first time The Strip hosted the headlining WSOP tournament.
