Indiana Sports Betting Handle Soars 160% in October

Another month of rapid growth

The Indiana Gaming Commission has revealed that the state’s sports betting handle soared to $91.7m in October, which represents a 160.4% increase when compared to September.

This is just the second complete month with performance figures since legal sports betting launched in the state. October was the first month in which the online sportsbooks were open due to a staggered rollout of sports betting in the state. Only three online sportsbooks were launched.?

Mobile sports bets represented $48m of the entire intake, which is 52.4% of all bets. In October, only three online sportsbooks were launched.

DraftKings was the leading online sportsbook in terms of revenue with $4.2m

From the total intake of $91.7m, sportsbooks genereated $11.5m. This is a monthly increase of 34.8%. Of this sum of revenue, $1.1m goes to the state government in the form of taxes.?

Leaders in the sportsbook rankings

Ameristar Casino, owned by Penn National Gaming, was the state’s leading sportsbook provider for the month with an intake of $46.2m ($39.4m from mobile sources). Its total revenue was $5m.?

Horseshoe Hammond, which is owned by Caesars Entertainment, was second in the rankings without having a mobile sportsbook. Its retail operations saw a handle of $10.7m, with revenue being $1.7m in October.

In third place was French Lick Casino with a total handle of $7.1m ($6.3m from mobile sources). Blue Chip Casino followed in fourth place with a total handle of $7m ($2.4m from mobile sources).?

Ameristar Casino’s online offering is through DraftKings. Blue Chip Casino’s online sportsbook is through FanDuel, while French Lick Casino’s online offering is powered by BetRivers.

Launch of sports betting in Indiana

Both the DraftKings and BetRivers online sportsbooks went live on October 3, 2019.

The underwhelming results for FanDuel’s online sports betting operations in Indiana for October are explained by its October 26 launch date. Only six days worth of sports bets made at this online platform were accounted for in the October figures.

Further online offerings from the likes of Fox Bet, BetMGM, PointsBet, and William Hill are expected to launch in the state in the near future.

There are currently 15 retail sportsbooks open in Indiana. Legal sports betting in retail establishments kicked off just in time for the beginning of the lucrative NFL season, at the beginning of September.?
